The CIVSA Internship Program’s goal is to match member institutions with students interested in higher education careers. While many internships are geared towards graduate students, undergraduate students who are upperclassmen and who are looking to work in higher education may also apply. The internship program will provide opportunities for member institutions to receive extra assistance during the summer months and in turn, give students a better understanding of visitor and information services.

The internship program will give interns the following:

  • Exposure to visitor and information services professions and CIVSA
  • Opportunity to gain experience at an institution different than their current institution
  • Encouragement to build connections within the field
  • Professional development opportunities

The program will be a partnership between CIVSA and the member institutions who opt into serving as an internship host. Members of the Member Relations Committee will oversee the program and communicate with host institutions and interns before, during and after the internship program.

Examples of intern responsibilities are dependent on the host institution, but could include the following:

  • Conduct admissions information sessions
  • Create training content and procedures for new hires
  • Partake in walk-in admissions counseling
  • Assist with tour check-in and dismissal
  • Create a visitor’s guide
  • Shadow and critique ambassador’s campus tours
  • Represent visitor center at campus-wide meetings and events
  • Oversee and manage summer group visit requests
  • Help ambassadors develop their tour theme
  • Create tour schedule for ambassadors and admissions information session for full-time staff
  • Assist with diversity training and awareness
  • Oversee campus tour assessment
