Summer Series: Encouraging Parents to “Trust the Process”: Ideas on Catering to this Influencer Group

Research has shown the importance of parents in the college selection process, but as a whole, the college admissions world has yet to fully embrace the recruitment of parents. We’ve all joked about the mom that speaks for her son at check-in for an event or the dad that we all know filled out his daughter’s application, so we know that parents want to be included. Perhaps it’s time to recruit the parents as much as the students. If we make them part of the process, maybe they will be more inclined to trust us to take good care of their student when they’re not there. We’ll take a look at some small changes that one school has made to its campus visits and events to be more inclusive of parents.
