Hello Members,
The world of higher education seems to get more complex each year. In light of the increasing number of college campuses experiencing protests and political rallies, many of you may have felt that impact on your visits and events.
You are not alone in what you might be experiencing, and CIVSA is here for you. No matter what circumstances currently look like at your institution, the campus protests have most likely impacted your work, our industry – and perhaps impacted you on a personal level.
I encourage you to leverage our Discourse platform to have conversations about how you may be modifying your institution’s visits and events, or gain insight as to how other visit centers are managing their operations. Our executive board, in collaboration with the conference committee, is discussing ways that we might facilitate opportunities for discussion, virtually and informally at Conference in Seattle.
This is a difficult topic of conversation, so I want to reaffirm CIVSA’s commitment to our mission of providing knowledge exchange, research and connections in an inviting arena that builds professional and personal relationships.
Higher education is not for the faint of heart, I’ve learned. But working in higher education is also one of the most rewarding fields and is composed of some of the most talented, creative, and kind individuals. While you might be the only professional who does what you do on your campus, you’re not alone in this field, and CIVSA is here to support you.
Best wishes,
Julee Mitsler
