[civsa] Holding Luggage for Visitors

Hello Kristen,

We will hold it, but similar to what Kanani said we let them know we are not liable for it and that we recommend valuables be secured or be with them. It will be left in our secured front office if it’s not a major visit day. (we usually get one or two bags a day)

If it’s a student coming in for a day visit, an overnight or one of our larger events then we typically have one of our additional rooms secured for them to store their bags with student workers acting as security.

Thanks

Hi Kristin,

We hold it but let them know we are not liable for it. It will be in a space where someone is at all times and not left alone. We don’t have any space to hold luggage, let alone a secure space. I always tell them if they have anything super valuable in it they should take it with them. Families are usually ok with this process. And we don’t hold luggage overnight.

Best,
Kanani

Kristin,

We hold it as well. We have a back storage room in our office that locks for small overnight visitors and on large group days we use a classroom that can be locked.

Thanks,
Paula

Hi Kristin,

We hold it for them. Even in our very large sessions (200+ attendees) we might get only a handful of luggage pieces. We use a system that is nearly identical to what a hotel porter would use. It can be a real pain sometimes, but it keeps our visitors happy.

Hope this helps.

Dustin

Hi all,

The question has come up a lot with our staff, as we don’t have the proper space for it in our office and we’re looking at alternate solutions. How does your school manage visitors with luggage? Do you hold it for them while they go on a tour, or do you leave it to them as to not be liable for their belongings?

Please let me know what your school’s philosophy is on this!
