Our office of disability services will provide sign language interpreters for campus events and tours if we request them far enough in advance. The Admissions office pays for the services and we work directly with disability services to make the arrangements. We always have interpreters available at our larger events, but on our RSVP forms we ask students to let us know if they need any special assistance. If a student wants to meet with someone from this office (to learn more about their services), we set it up for them and they are more than happy to meet with prospective students.

Here’s what we list on our tours page:
Available upon request: American Sign Language-interpreted tours (request at least two weeks in advance); wheelchairs (request at least two days in advance). Please contact the campus visit coordinator<mailto:lnelson at colum.edu> to make arrangements.

Howdy CIVSA!

I am interested in knowing how you accommodate prospective students/visitors with requests for disability services, mainly sign language interpreters.  Do you refer your visitors to the department of disability services at your school?  Do you outsource those services? Do you all have a good working relationship with disability services and they provide assistance to prospective students or do they assist current students only.  I am conducting research and looking to revamp the way we handle requests.  Any advice is greatly appreciated.
