Here at UC San Diego we do offer ASL interpretation upon request (usually
2-3 weeks ahead of time) and wheelchairs to loan during the tour. The
Campus Tours office pays for the ASL interpretation services and I work
directly with the Office of Student Disabilities to coordinate interpreters
meeting the family in our visitor center and accompanying them on the tour.
If the student would like to stay on campus to meet with faculty, sit in on
a class, or explore on their own, it's definitely encouraged, though the
additional interpretation time must be paid by the individual.
We've started tracking these requests and we typically get 5-10 of these a
year.
Hope this helps!
Risa
