Welcome to CIVSA, Nate!
At Valpo, we offer overnight visits Sunday through Thursday from October
through the end of April. This is my third year overseeing the program and
one of the things that has helped me the most in this role is discussing
overnight visits with the residential life team. Not only did it allow them
to understand the importance in the recruitment process and what we do as a
program, but they taught me so much more than I ever considered. Small
things like asking the students to bring a picture ID so they could check
in to the residence halls easier to knowing the residential life policies
as if it were my job. It has helped me a lot when having conversations in
my office about our program, such as hosting overnight visitors in our new
sorority housing residence hall. It has also made my training much more
aligned with what the overnight hosts are taught at their floor meetings at
the beginning of the year. On the flip side, the Residential Assistants are
also more aware of official overnight visitors in their building and what
they are doing there.
We send a medical consent form that also now lists general rules of campus
that must be submitted before their visit (click here
<https://itvalpo.wufoo.com/forms/overnight-visit-medical-consent-form/>).
Feel free to contact me if you have any additional questions or want to
discuss overnight visits further.
