I understand that viewpoint, which is why I haven’t said anything to this point. However, I worry that if our policies or pricing changes, or if we get rid of an academic program, etc… it could become an issue. It’s also the same reason I don’t provide copies of our presentations and instead encourage them to visit our website for the most up-to-date information… but I get what you’re saying…

Hi Dee,
I've had this happen to me sometimes as well and I have always allowed it. I have seen these self-shot videos make their way to YouTube and get thousands of hits. A couple does show the tour guide getting angry about being filmed and it makes the school look bad. So from a PR stand point, I've allowed it because it could be good free press.
Thanks,
Brett Hartnagel

Good afternoon CIVSA—
Have any of you all (who give campus tour presentations) looked out into the audience during your talk, only to realize someone has raised their cell phone to record your entire presentation? Do you allow it? Do you ask them to stop in the middle of the presentation? Do you have a sign on the door saying no recording? I just want to know if this happens frequently and if there are any best practices regarding this.
I don’t like being recorded without prior permission, but I also don’t want to make someone cross our school off their list if I’m not handling the situation properly.
I look forward to hearing from you all! ☺
Dee
