[civsa] Points System

Hi Dee,

We do use a points system for our volunteer guides.  We give points for their regular weekly tours and offer double points for Saturday tours or when they cover someone else's tour.  We also give points for leading group tours.  We tally them at the end of the semester and hand out incentives at our end of the semester dinner.  I am fortunate to have a budget that covers the dinner and the incentives.  We typically do a t-shirt that we give to all guides each semester and a small incentive (water bottle, hat, etc.).  We award a gift card ($50) to the highest point earner and then convert points to monopoly money and allow guides to shop our old incentive store (left over from pervious semesters). This has worked quite well for us and has helped to motivate individual guides.

For those institutions (preferably with a smaller student staff) that have a points system for your tour guides/ambassadors/student workers/volunteers, would you mind sharing your points breakdown with me?

n  What do you give points for ( Campus tours? Events? Office work? Lunch visits?)

n  Do you have the students divided in teams, or is it an individual competition?

n  What incentives do the students receive after reaching certain milestones?

n  How often are those incentives typically distributed?

n  Does your office purchases these gifts or do these incentives come out of your personal pocketbook?

Any documents you can share would be greatly appreciated!
