[civsa] Policies on Piercings

Hi Candyce,

Here at the University of Northern Colorado we do not have a policy on piercings within our ambassador program. We have a student with a septum piercing (bull ring) and have had no complaints about her. In fact, she is one of our best and highly praised tour guides. Guests love her because she is enthusiastic, relatable, unique, and authentic. I've even heard comments from students such as "it's great to see someone like me here". We encourage our ambassadors to be authentically themselves however that may look for them (as long as it is not offensive). We do have a standard uniform, but we do not have policies when it comes to piercings, hair color, or tattoos.

Good Morning -

I am curious to see how everyone handles piercings  with their student ambassadors? We just hired someone who now has a "bull ring" - I don't know what you call them - but it looks like a bull ring between her nostrils :). I talked to our HR and was told we cannot tell her she cannot have one, but can write something in our handbook and imply that she shouldn't have it. Since these students are on the front line with our prospects, they are the first impression. Has anyone had to handle something like this?
