[civsa] Policies on Overnight Visits with Minors

Good evening,


I am interested in legal or system policies your school may have for overnight visits. Our University System is creating a policy for programs working with minors. The major focus is protecting children we host for summer camps, however this policy does apply to all minors. Most of our high school seniors and admitted students who spend the night are under 18. They currently sign safety waivers, but no other documents.


I am meeting with our Director of Risk Management/ Legal this week to give input into the policies. The proposed policy on behavior states (as one of 20 points of appropriate contact) "If one-on-one interaction is required it will take place in an open, well-illuminated space where I am observable by other volunteers or program staff". For obvious reasons, this will not work for typical overnight visits.


How do campuses who allow this work with policies?
