Hey Amy!

At Newberry College, we offer both. Our Accepted Student Weekend is an overnight program that we have each year in the spring and it is the same weekend as our Spring Game and Spring Fest. I work closely with athletics and student affairs for this program.

We are a small school so we like to have our programs when there are other events on campus. Attached is the schedule that we are using this year. This will be the first year that all admitted students who attend will also be required to stay overnight. (We are a residential campus so this helps with that) Our ambassadors are required to host at least one student and this year we worked with housing to have RAs host as well. In the years prior the overnight portion was optional and it was difficult finding enough hosts.

But our Accepted Student Weekend has evolved and it is structured like a pre-orientation. (Over the summer we have four 1 day orientations where students are able to register for courses, take their foreign language placement, etc.)
Students will be with ambassadors, Alpha Leaders (orientation leaders) during the day portion where they will learn about how to prepare for their advising session, what to expect at orientation, how the housing process works, play icebreakers, which should be helpful so when they come back over the summer for orientation they are more comfortable because they see familiar faces and already have an idea of what that day will be like. IN the evening they get to each in the cafeteria, they can attend a baseball game, attend the Student Government on campus party, and some hosts and guests have gotten together and done movie night or game night in their hall. Saturday, their parents meet up with them for a light breakfast and then they can go enjoy the day on campus or in downtown Newberry.

Subject: [civsa] Admitted Student Days

We are considering offering an Admitted Student Day next year, and I'm looking for programming advice from those of you who offer an Admitted Student Day AND have some type of class registration/orientation event over the summer for students as well.

We currently offer Registration Days in the summer (run by Academic Advising) where students come to campus to register for classes, meet with advisors, and get mostly academic-based orientation information.  Our orientation is at held in the fall at the same time as freshman move-in.  We're thinking of offering the Admitted Student Day in the spring while keeping our Registration Days in the summer, but are trying to figure out what type of programming to have for each without being too repetitive.  Would anyone be willing to share what they offer for each if you do both?
