Hi Ania!
Here at University of Idaho we do our best to set up individual department meetings/ tours for every student that selects an academic meeting on our registration form. These meetings consist of meeting with a staff or faculty member from the student's area of interest, as well as a brief tour by the staff or faculty member, of the departments facilities. The coordination of these meetings is centralized through me. I reach out to each department for every student, and schedule the meetings.
It is a bit of extra work on our end, but the payoff is amazing! Students and families love the personalized attention and feel well taken care of when they arrive and have not only a campus tour, but academic meeting already scheduled for them! We are a mid-sized institution with around 8, 500 undergrads and 12,000 students total!
Hope this helps!
Best,
Danae Nagle

Subject: [civsa] Academic department tours
Hello! I'm curious about how your schools handle tours of specific academic departments.
We're trying to figure the best way to do this for our school (we have 20 departments in 10 different buildings and about 8,000 students). Currently we have student tour guides lead visitors to several different departments and talk a little bit about each one. But that lacks the detail that faculty or staff from each department would provide. Some of our departments provide their own in-depth tours, but those students don't necessarily have any contact with Admissions. Is there a happy medium?
Thanks!
Ania
