[civsa] Admissions Student Worker Structure

Hello all!

Our ambassadors are trained to do all tasks. Previously we had "office ambassadors" and "tour/event ambassadors." We found that we'd end up short handed one way or another a lot of times. Sometimes I saw our ambassadors not answer certain questions or didn't want to help with certain tasks because it wasn't in their "job description." Since we've trained all ambassadors to do all tasks, I've noticed a huge difference in moral between ambassadors, all together, and I can count on any of them at any time to assist in a variety of duties. Yes, some still only have time to give tours or only work office hours depending on his/her schedule for the term, but they can still perform different tasks when asked. Hope that helps!

We have recently started cross training our summer student staff. We also have the same three classifications for student staff (tour guides, call center, and front desk). It has been very successful for our office so far. We have trained our tour guides to handle our call center as well as data entry and vice versa. Our plan is to continue utilizing students in multiple areas.

Hello,
Right now we have our students workers in the office in three separate silos (tour guides, callers, front office data entry/phones/mailing). We are considering combining forces and cross training so all student workers can do all tasks. Hs anyone done this successfully? Pros and cons?

Blessings,
