Hi Dustin!
We start off with a 1 hour and 15 minute tour with one of our student tour guides. Then they sit down with an admissions counselor for about 30 minutes. We have a special visit on Fridays called, "Taste of Tech" and the prospective students get to eat lunch with 2 of our tour guides. Families seem to enjoy that quite a bit! Hope this helps a little bit!

Hi Dustin!
I don't know if this would be an option for your office, but we have specific students trained to present the info session. So ideally when a prospective student comes for a visit they attend a 15-30 info session with a student, and are given a hour tour with another student. This took a lot of training on our end. There are pros and cons having a student present, but we feel so far it has been a good change.

Hi Dustin!
We have a student co-present our general information session. A blended presentation was worked well for us, and is something we will continue to do as we put together a new presentation.
Our current 45-minute presentation is broken roughly into 3 parts: Academics, Student Life, and Admission\Financial Aid. The first two parts are covered by both the student and the staff member. Admission\Fin-Aid is delivered the staff member.
For academics, the staff member covers the ?nuts and bolts? or the high-level material. The student will then supplement with anecdotes and personal experiences to add depth to what we are saying; also to authenticate our messaging. Same thing goes for Student Life: The staff member will talk about the resources on campus and the student will speak about campus life using their personal experiences and stories from their peers.
Overall, the feedback has been incredible. Visitors really appreciate the student sharing their experience, and it adds validity to what the staff member is saying. Also, there?s just so much going on on-campus that it is impossible for staff to be up-to-date on all things Northwestern.
A quick note about out student staff: Our student staff consists of about fifteen 3rd and 4th year students who serve as paraprofessionals in the office, working about 10 hours a week. These are not tour guides, but an extension of the admission staff. They serve as first-response for general emails, phone calls, and staffing our front desk. Before and after sessions, they also make themselves available to families in our lobby to answer any questions and share their experience. Since they are usually in their final year at Northwestern, we have to replenish most of the student staff annually.
Hope this helps!

We are also looking for ways to provide more student interactions. It?s tricky!

Hi Everyone,
We're looking to revamp our information sessions and tours. We get a lot of feedback saying that they're too long and there isn't enough student interaction. Currently guests can register for a 1 hour information session presented by an admissions counselor coupled with a 1.5 hour walking tour around our central campus with a current student.
I would LOVE more guest interaction with our students, but I don't want our higher ups to feel like we would be trying something that hasn't been done before. What do you do for your information sessions and tours?
Thank you!
Dustin
