Good morning CIVSA,
Our university has just implemented an Office of Risk Management. What
this means for the Office of Admissions is that each student worker will be
required to go through training before they are allowed to be added to our
payroll.
For all admissions student workers who will be in contact with a minor (so
everybody) they will be required to watch a 30 minute "Awareness Training
Video" and complete a quiz after watching it.
For any student who hosts an overnight guest - they'll be required to go
through the "Awareness Training" as well as complete a background check and
have it on file. Their roommate will also have to complete a background
screening before having an overnight guest.
Here's my dilemma - I'm going to have difficulty finding enough overnight
hosts who will be willing to go through the Awareness Training, submit a
background check application, and have their roommate submit a background
check application. This will change my timeline for recruiting hosts for
overnight events and Preview Days.
I am responsible for paying $35 per background check. If I have 400
overnight hosts per school year = that totals $14,000 in background checks
each year.
I'm curious what other schools might have similar requirements - and how
you are able to manage getting all of your students to complete the
awareness training, and complete a background screening (with their
roommate).
Enjoy your Thursday!
Peace,
Wyatt
