[civsa] Faculty Appointments as part of Campus Tour

Good afternoon CIVSA friends -

At the University of Nebraska at Kearney (UNK) we offer academic appointments as a part of our regular campus visit process.

We offer campus visits Monday-Friday at 9:30AM and Monday-Thursday at 1:30PM. Here is what our typical schedule looks like for these visits:

Morning Campus Visit



9:30AM

UNK Welcome

9:45AM

UNK Campus Tour

11:30AM

Academic Appointment

12:00PM

Lunch at the Market @ 27th Street
(discounted meal vouchers provided to prospective students)

1:00PM

UNK Financial Aid Presentation (optional)



Afternoon Campus Visit

Academic Appointment


Before every semester begins we email out a “departmental representative for academic appointments” form - they need to return it by the 1st week of classes. Here is the example I used for this semester:

Typically a week before the campus visit, I email the appropriate people to confirm if they are available to meet with prospective students.

This actually all started before I ran our campus visit program - one department that had an Office Associate who always went above and beyond created a sheet similar to this for their own department and they turned it in every semester. We really liked that idea so we just went with it/developed it into our own thing and made it a standard practice. This is something that has worked really well and I am glad it has evolved over the years - makes it easier on everyone involved.

Good day everyone!
The topic today is faculty appointments!  Does your institution provide an appointment with a faculty member as part of the standard tour experience?
If so, have you discovered a way of arranging appointments which creates the least resistance and is convenient and manageable for everyone involved?  We find that while faculty are open and agreeable to meeting with prospective students and families, arranging the appointment time within the structure of a tour is very difficult.
