Kate,
We place a flyer in each student’s visit folder (see attached) that highlights ways they can share their visit experience via Twitter or Instagram. Most students will take a photo after the tour when they are on their own, not while part of the tour group. We don’t offer any giveaways, but I do engage with every Tweet and IG photo we see with the hashtag from our official accounts. We don’t get posts every day but over the last couple years we have seen about 550 posts and it does help us gain followers and students are always impressed when we interact with them online after their photos.

We also have multiple campuses and our flyer is inclusive of all of them. It highlights a good location on each campus to take a photo and an appropriate location tag for their photo.

Hi CIVSA friends,

Happy “Hump” Day! Do any of you incorporate social media into your tours? By this I mean, do your tour stop at a certain location where selfies/tweeting/instagraming is encouraged? Or do incorporate it in some other way? Can you share your ideas and processes? My director heard about this at a conference and wants to see if we can build this into our tours. Thanks!!
