RE Pay and incentives:
We are fortunate to have a budget that supports what we do.
We pay our student guides hourly wages, and they get a $0.50 increase for every 200 hours worked. As part of their employment, we have various requirements for types of hours worked (including signups for off-schedule tours).
Public recognition and incentives work well for tour guide types - we have various low-key-but-fun incentives for various milestones -- "most signups for the quarter", "Sub King and Queen" honors (for those who subbed the most times each quarter for their peers), and we bestow a traditional golf umbrella in a brief "knighting" ceremony at monthly staff meeting for anyone who reaches our top tier of hours worked (800 or more).

Subject: [civsa] Tour Guide - Paid or Incentive?
Morning and Warm Holiday Wishes!
I wanted to inquire about if your tour guides are all paid or if there are incentives for them. Currently, we offer free parking and they do a certain amount of tours a semester, but that doesn't seem to be working well. We are looking at hiring some, but I wanted to see what others do to provide student tour guides for general campus tours.
Thanks in advance for your help! Looking forward to your responses!
Best,
