Here at the University of Arizona, graduating seniors receive stoles. Arizona Ambassadors, who provide campus tours for the Office of Admissions, are not paid ambassadors. They are part of an honorary organization here on the campus, whose primary role is to serve as ambassadors for the university and office of admissions. Therefore, they have a to maintain a set-forth GPA requirement and are recognized as a leadership organization on the campus.

Hello CIVSA Members,
For those of you who give graduation cords and/or stoles to your ambassadors, do they receive them just for being in your ambassador program or is their an academic distinction associated with it as well?
My ambassadors have been asking for graduation cords/stoles for several years and my VP and the Dean of Students will not allow it. Their reason is that cords and stoles are for academic distinction and not for club/student involvement.
I would greatly appreciate any help, advice, input and guidance that you can give me in my quest to get my ambassadors request approved.
Thanks for your time and assistance. Have a good day!

Hi all,
We absolutely recognize our Student Ambassadors with a Stole of Gratitude.
Our program has a rich history at Portland State and we engage our Ambassador alumni to develop our foundation and scholarship accounts. We have had a team from 15-35 and we say once an Ambassador always an Ambassador.
I would encourage you to speak with your VP and dean about the cultivation of strong alumni affinity with your group while they are still on campus/leaving for commencement. I also coordinate our commencement activities and many other affinity/interest groups on campus have their own stoles/cords that honor them. They just aren't allowed to use Green, Gold, or Silver because we use them for our Latin Honor distinction. At first, there was a lot of hesitancy around granting other groups cords/stoles, but the response since allowing has been overwhelmingly positive.
Hope that helps, I also attached an image of our stole we give the Ambassadors.
Best,
Nicholas
