[civsa] Tours during Finals week?

At Mizzou we will provide tours during finals week, but the dates are not listed on the website which decreases the number of visitors because they have to call to specifically sign up for that week. Tour guides are secured using a volunteer approach. As others have mentioned, I don't have a problem finding enough guides because a lot of students either don't have finals or are finished early in the week, but stick around to see friends graduate, etc. or welcome the break from the intensity of studying.

Regarding handling crowds during Winter and Spring break, I typically try to hire local students whenever possible. Anyone in the application process within a 30-minute proximity to campus is guaranteed a group interview.

Hi all:

Similar to what Ebony indicated at OSU, at Stanford our student guides are on a regular, quarterly assigned tour schedule from Weeks 2-9 of each academic quarter; during the first week and finals week (as well as breaks between quarters), we are "on sign-ups," and generally don't have a problem securing enough guides to sign up to give tours (though Spring Break is a distinct challenge - due to the volume of visitors to guides signed up).

Would be curious how others deal with the conundrum that most of us get our biggest crowds when school is out (Spring Break, summer, holiday weekends), which is also when are guides are least available.

Subject: [civsa] Tours during Finals week?

Hi everyone,

Greetings from sunny and warm Florida! Traditionally we have not given tours during the first week of classes each semester because of the unusual "craziness" on campus that week. Florida Gulf Coast University is considering not giving tours during finals week. Can you let me know if you do give tours during finals week and, if you do, is it a decreased tour schedule (ie - do you offer fewer tours each day, etc.).

Thanks all!

Tami
