[civsa] Lightning Policy for Tours

As far as we are aware there are no written policies at Penn for running campus tours during potentially dangerous weather so we decided that should the weather pose any immediate threat (lightening/very high winds/icy conditions etc) we reserve the right to cancel the guided tour. If it is possible we will offer a student panel given by our tour guides or student workers in the admissions office in lieu of the tour. We will also offer self-guided walking tours to anyone wanting to brave the conditions.

Hope this is helpful.

Siobhan

Do any of your campus visit programs have a weather or lightning policy in writing on guidelines for conducting tours in inclement weather conditions (specifically lightning)? Our tours typically go out rain or shine, and we ask our guides to use discretion when on tour if lightning is present (staying under cover, etc.) If any of you have written policies or guidelines for lightning and weather conditions on tours, we would greatly appreciate the shared information!

Thank you,

Rachel
