[civsa] freebies

Hi Donna,
At Oregon State University, our University Events office (within University Relations and Marketing) handles the majority of these requests. They have pennants for classroom teachers and an OSU mug, filled with OSU-goodies, that they will donate for non-profit fundraising events. The Office of Precollege Programs responds to additional requests from K-8 teachers for pencils, stickers, etc.
Hope this is helpful!
Thanks,
Katie

Donna,

Greetings back from unusually warm northern Minnesota - although I think our unusually warm and yours probably differ.

We aren't necessarily large - but we do have a total student population of 12,000 at the University of Minnesota Duluth. It is our Office of Admissions that handles these requests. It is extremely rare for us to honor an individual request for a freebie, however, we do honor requests from high schools that fit within our typical market area. Often this is a pennant or a t-shirt depending on what the need is. If it is for post-prom or other events that are similar it is a t-shirt. We actually do orders (our design, our vendor) of t-shirts and pennants specifically for these purposes.

Hope this helps.

If you are a large public university, would you please take the time to respond?

How does your university respond to requests for 'freebies'? Do you have goodies that you can forward and who within your university handles these requests? At Florida State, we are inundated with these requests. The President's Office and numerous departments will forward these requests on to Admissions. We respond to counselor/school requests by providing a counselor packet which includes a poster, but for individuals wanting t-shirts, pens, pennants, we cannot accommodate their requests. What area within your university handles promotional material requests such as this? Thanks for taking the time to respond. Hope your holidays were bright!
