My current staff participate in the interview process which involves a group interview followed by individual interviews. During the group interview candidates participate in group activities, a round of 'speed interviewing' and present a five minute segment of a campus tour. Throughout this process my current staff is asked to observe the candidates and make note the following:

 *   who arrives early/late
 *   candidates who introduce themselves to others and strike up conversations as they arrive
 *   how interviewees manage stress/nervousness during interview/practice tour
 *   how candidates receive criticism and constructive feedback from others during the group activities
 *   the level of understanding candidates have about the role of the Visitor Center and the Welcomer position
 *   any power conflicts/struggles that arise during group activities
 *   confidence and participation in group activities
 *   behavior that is too passive or aggressive during group activities
 *   interpersonal communication skills:
    *   applicants that interrupt others
    *   applicants that listen and praise other candidates for their opinions
    *   nonverbal language
 *   attentiveness/level of engagement
 *   demonstrated ability to think on their feet
 *   who thanked you and said good bye before leaving
We find this information very useful when deciding which candidates should be invited to continue in the process. Hope this helps!
