SUMMARY:Region 3 Chat: Taking Care of You\, While You Take Care of Everything Else
DESCRIPTION:This has been a hard year for everyone\, and you’ve probably taken a lot of time to make sure your student ambassadors and staff are taken care of – encouraging breaks\, extended grace periods\, and understanding. But\, have you done the same for yourself? Take some time to chat and speak with professional peers and learn more about self-care and mental health tips. Hear how we can try to maintain our work-life balance while working in the place you likely live. Join Region 3 for our monthly discussion to share tips and tricks that have helped us over the past 6+ months as we head into the new year. We are not mental health professionals\, but we do want to share and connect what has worked for us!

SUMMARY:CIVSA Connections Small Group: Hosting Virtual Preview or Open House Events
DESCRIPTION:As we continue to navigate virtual events and programming this academic year\, let’s have a conversation focused on how we can best host\, engage audiences\, and showcase our campuses virtually during preview days.  We hope to provide a platform to connect with fellow CIVSA members. This space is designed for those who have already hosted virtual preview days\, are actively planning preview days this year or want to learn best practices for future events. We hope to learn best practices no matter the size of your campus\, technology you have at your disposal or experience with preview days. We recognize that virtual events are likely here to stay so we hope this conversation will be fruitful for you. This hour will generally be geared towards discussing virtual events for students who are yet to apply rather than admitted preview days.\n \nModerator: Aaron Borgeson\, Admissions Officer/Welcome Center Coordinator\, Office of Admissions and Recruitment at Cal Poly\, San Luis Obispo\, CA \nThis event is for members only; register at https://civsa.wildapricot.org/event-3950716

SUMMARY:CIVSA Connections Small Group: Creating Guest Opportunity Without On-Campus Experiences
DESCRIPTION:As we all continue to navigate the visit experience through COVID-19\, some institutions will not offer any Fall Semester on-campus experiences to prospective visitors. \nA decision like this can cause challenges OR create opportunity. We hope you can connect with fellow CIVSA members to learn from each other. Join a small group of fellow CIVSA members to discuss your institution’s plans without offering visits\, tours\, or events in Fall Semester. How are your institutions creating guest opportunity to learn about your school without coming onto your campus? \nAlthough institutions might have to offer different plans due to location\, university policies\, or safety protocols\, these discussions will be valuable to help gather ideas on visitor communication\, random drop in visitors\, creating new virtual visit ideas\, and getting started on hopefully transitioning back to reopening campus visits. This is a great opportunity to collaborate with other higher education professionals\, who specifically understand some of the unique situations associated with hosting and NOT hostingvisitors on campus. \nModerator:Ebony Smith\, Associate Director at The Ohio State University – Columbus Campus \nThis event is for members only; register at https://civsa.wildapricot.org/event-3943606

SUMMARY:Summer Series: Diversity\, Equity\, and Inclusion at a PWI and HSI\, Is there a Difference?
DESCRIPTION:In this session\, we explore diversity\, equity\, and inclusion for tour guides from both the perspectives of a predominantly White institution and a Hispanic serving institution. We will provide different tactics\, programming\, and opportunities for tour guides\, to gain awareness of their own identity\, therefore allowing students to better serve any campus visitor no matter their background\, beliefs and experiences. We tackle issues that tour guides face at a PWI and HSI. We recognize that cultural competency is different across higher education\, come learn how Cal State San Bernardino and Cal Poly San Luis Obispo face familiar but unique challenges. Come explore how CSUSB and Cal Poly tackle these hurdles. We look forward to a dynamic session where we can all participate and learn from the collective whole as the work of inclusion is best shared by diverse perspectives\, backgrounds\, and beliefs. \nThis event is for members only; register at https://civsa.wildapricot.org/event-3879908

SUMMARY:Summer Series: Encouraging Parents to “Trust the Process”: Ideas on Catering to this Influencer Group
DESCRIPTION:Research has shown the importance of parents in the college selection process\, but as a whole\, the college admissions world has yet to fully embrace the recruitment of parents. We’ve all joked about the mom that speaks for her son at check-in for an event or the dad that we all know filled out his daughter’s application\, so we know that parents want to be included. Perhaps it’s time to recruit the parents as much as the students. If we make them part of the process\, maybe they will be more inclined to trust us to take good care of their student when they’re not there. We’ll take a look at some small changes that one school has made to its campus visits and events to be more inclusive of parents. \nThis event is for members only; register at https://civsa.wildapricot.org/event-3873350

SUMMARY:Summer Series: Sustainable U: Measuring and Implementing Sustainable Practices into Enrollment Management Departments
DESCRIPTION:As politicians\, teen activists and global leaders continue to advocate for environmental awareness\, implementing sustainable practices as a priority in our day-to-day decisions has increased exponentially. But what does it mean to be sustainable in the world of higher education? Despite making strides to reduce our own carbon footprint at NYU\, this lingering question led to an internal review of how our Enrollment Management Division is incorporating green practices – spanning from our local office spaces to marketing campaigns to special events held abroad and at home. Diving headfirst into the obstacles and opportunities we’ve encountered in this continuous conversation\, this session will provide an overview of how to survey\, educate and implement goals that consider the long term impact our actions make on generations of the future. \nThis event is for members only; register at https://civsa.wildapricot.org/event-3879405

SUMMARY:Summer Series: Emergency Preparedness / Crisis Intervention Plan: How to be Proactive in a Crisis
DESCRIPTION:At CIVSA in 2019\, I sat in a session about safety and the dangers that had happened on campus. The speaker explained her situation at her institution and was frustrated as expected. This provoked me to take a look at our safety and see that it was below par. I then worked to create an Emergency Preparedness/ Crisis Intervention Plan that we could use in our office. I would like to share the plan and work with participants in creating one of their own. \nThis event is for members only; register at https://civsa.wildapricot.org/event-3879382

SUMMARY:Summer Series: How to Successfully Manage Group Tours without Crying Real Tears
DESCRIPTION:This year\, we implemented a new system for scheduling\, managing\, and executing group tours. From groups of 8 to groups of 150\, we’ve been able to accommodate a school or community group visit (almost) every weekday without going completely insane. In this session\, we will share some of the tools we use to support our group visit program\, including how we automate the scheduling process and email confirmations and reminders. We will also discuss how we run the visits on a daily basis (at the same time as our daily tours) utilizing student staff for additional support. Finally\, we will share outcomes of our new process\, including numbers and survey results\, and will offer our plans for moving forward with this process. \nThis event is for members only; register at https://civsa.wildapricot.org/event-3879333

SUMMARY:Summer Series: “How to Coach”: Empowering Students to Train and Give Feedback
DESCRIPTION:In our jobs\, we are often doing a million different things all at once\, so it can be amazingly helpful when your students can take on more responsibility to help you out. In this session\, you will hear how St. Edward’s University trains their student leaders to be able to give feedback to their peers as they undergo the tour training process\, and how the students take the lead in correcting mistakes. This session will also be a guided discussion to share best practices about how other institutions train their student leaders to train their peers\, have difficult conversations\, or take on more responsibility to free up your time! \nThis event is for current members only; register at https://civsa.wildapricot.org/event-3878518
