[civsa] Nametags or No Nametags

We use nametags that I have the student’s first name, last initial, major of interest, date of visit, and location of department visiting. It helps the ambassadors to know where they are taking them.

They are black and white printed off of a Dymo nametag printer. It has been really easy to manage this year. Previously we had different blank colored nametags that we had to handwrite names and place in clear pouches to go on a lanyard. It was very labor intensive and if they didn’t show, had wasted product. I wanted to streamline that and what we are doing now works pretty well for us.

Interested to see what others do also!

We use guest stickers like the one below for all of our events, including tours and residence hall room shows. When people check in for an event, we give them a guest sticker and ask them to wear it for the time they are on campus. We order them in bulk instead of printing them ourselves. It's a great way for public safety and other campus partners to distinguish guests since our campus is so open. Hope that's helpful!

Hello!

I am looking to see what fellow colleagues use to identify “campus visitors” in lieu of printing nametags. Our friends in Housing have expressed a concern about guests participating in residence halls during our open house events without some form of identification that the guests are indeed part of our open house programming, and not complete strangers. We know the obvious solution is to use nametags, but we’re looking for other suggestions you may have instead. Any advice/recommendations are much appreciated!
