[civsa] Slate for Ambassadors

At Fordham, we have about 275 volunteer ambassadors, so a couple of years
ago, we created a portal to manage their shifts. Based on staff and
student feedback, it's worked very well.

Here's a summary of the process: 1) Volunteer submits form, which creates
a record in our Volunteer dataset, which triggers an email with portal
access; 2) ambassador logs in and signs up for tour shifts in the portal;
3) they get automatic reminders (including two hours before by SMS); 4) we
mark them as Attended or No Show for the shift.

At any time, we can add events or change caps based on visitor demand.
(Each term, when I post events on our public tour calendar, I create a
duplicate set of events using a different template and put them in a
different folder, which feed into the ambassador portal.)

Two less-than-great issues: We need to figure out a way to limit
ambassadors' ability to cancel their shift with less than 24 hours notice.
And also, querying/reporting individual volunteer data isn't very
easy/clean (i.e., who hasn't volunteered for a tour this month).

I made a manual, with screen shots, FAQs, and other tips. I'd be willing
to share if anyone emails me directly. Glad to answer any follow-up
questions, too.
