Hi Anna-

We do pay our overnight hosts, they know that they will be paid for the timeframe from 5pm-11pm at night, with one hour in the morning if they go to breakfast with their student. We incorporate overnight hosting into the role of Student Ambassador for those who live on campus, so we work with students who are already on our roster as “tour guides”. Rather than offering a few dates each year, we moved to an a la carte model where students who are interested in overnights can call in and pick a date, which we then offer to our regular crew. We’ve found that utilizing the students who already work for our office has been more reliable than scrounging for volunteers. This works for us because we rarely have more than one or two overnight guests at a time—hence why we went away from the more formal overnight stay program.

Hi Everyone,
We have been struggling to find overnight hosts for our our overnight visits.  We schedule several dates through out the year and typically have 20-30 students registered for each visit.  It seems that lately, we are having  a more difficult time securing hosts.

Do you pay your hosts?  If so, for how many hours?
Does anyone offer housing discounts for overnight hosts?  If so how does your program work?
