Here at Rutgers, we give out tickets on busy days. When folks check in and get their information packet, our students give them a color coded ticket, so at the end of the info session, we can release the red group with their tour guide, the green group with theirs, etc. It's also a fun opportunity if you wanted to work in some branding and name the groups something fun or put a school logo or graphic on the ticket.

During our busy seasons (we have two sessions of about 350 guests), guests listen to a 30 minute info session and, during that time, the College Ambassadors come in quietly and scope out the room to divide it up equally among themselves. It's a "guesstimation" system, but each College Ambassador stands next to a section of the room that represents roughly
25-30 guests so groups tend to be pretty equal. Once the info session is over, the CAs take their groups out one by one and begin their tours.
