[civsa] Tour Guide Uniforms and Quick Breakdown of institution

Hello Suzanne,
At Ohio State we provide 2 dri-fit polos to each Ambassador free to the students. We ask them to pay $15 for a university branded winter jacket, our offices pays the rest of the cost (about $32/jacket). We have a set of rain jackets in our office that students can use when touring but must return (our staff takes turn washing them). In the past few years, due to multiple requests from the students, we have given them the option of purchasing a quarter zip sweatshirt that is branded. Students pay for the sweatshirt in full, so it is an optional purchase.
Nick, here are answers to the questions you posed a while back:
* Name of your institution: The Ohio State University
* Institution Demographics (Private or Public/Current Enrollment): Public, land grant, research one; 48,831 undergraduate enrollment on Columbus Campus, 59,482 total enrollment on Columbus Campus
* Amount of Tour Guides or Ambassadors: fluctuates throughout the year but at the end of spring term we had 75 ambassadors. We are hoping to increase to 92 this fall.
* Paid or Volunteer: paid
* Daily/Group Tour Operations (Ex: Monday-Friday at 10 am/2pm):
-Admissions visits: all year, offered Monday through Friday at 9am and 1pm--depending on the time of year we may only offer two days a week; Saturdays year round, usually 2 per month time varies based on time of year
-Admitted visits: February through April, fit into the same time frames as above, also offer Saturdays
-Group Tours: no set day per week, we try to accommodate what we can as long as the request if for regular business hours Monday through Friday

Our TGs wear University of Iowa shirts while in training, but upon successful completion of training, they are given two TG logo t-shirts, one short sleeved, one long sleeved. After a year in our program, with no issues, they are provided with an embroidered fleece.
If they are with us for two years or give many tours during the first summer (gotta love the Iowa summers) we will give them new shirts based on what the others look like.

I include a statement at the bottom of the electronic registration form that says "By registering for this event you agree to grant Arkansas State University ......." with the option to Agree or Disagree. This works well for us.
I use Emailmeform.com for my event registration CRM.
Hope this helps!

Happy Friday everyone!!!
Does anyone have events that they require the student and parent to sign a liability or participation waiver? If so, are these waivers physically signed by the families and sent back or are they signed electronically?
Thank you in advance for your responses and feedback!

Hi Catie,
Greetings from NC State! We have a variety of pre-college programs that require waivers. We typically e-mail a link to the forms, and the participants and their parents can sign them and scan them in and send them back, or take a picture and send them back, or they can mail them in or they can bring them to the event in person. We do not use electronic signatures.
Hope that helps.

Good Afternoon CIVSA,
It was great having so many great conversations at the conference and I appreciate all of the insight that I received from so many of your universities. As we continue to enhance our program, I would like to reach out to as many of you as possible to see if you could provide me with some information about your institutions and tour guides/ambassadors. I hope that you might be able to share the following information with me:
* Name of your institution
* Institution Demographics (Private or Public/Current Enrollment)
* Amount of Tour Guides or Ambassadors
* Paid or Volunteer
* Daily/Group Tour Operations (Ex: Monday-Friday at 10 am/2pm)
I look forward to hearing back from as many of you as I can and thank you so much in advance!

Hi;
I'm wondering what other schools do/provide for uniforms for their tour guides. Do you provide them with one polo/t-shirt; do you provide them with several, do you give them a stipend to go out and buy your college clothing and they must wear it out on tour? Do you provide anything else as part of their uniform. Thanks for your input! Sue

Hey, Sue,
At Florida Southern, each tour guide receives a red polo and name tag with their name and hometown. Their uniform consists of the red polo and navy bottoms (shorts, skirts, pants, patterned). After completing their training semester, they receive a Southern Ambassador t-shirt and red rain jacket. For those Ambassadors who have served two or more years, we will purchase them an additional polo depending on the shape of their current one. It's hot in Florida, things get gross! :)
We are looking into getting them croakies to have as well.
Please let me know if you have any additional questions.

At James Madison, our tour guides are given one polo, a name tag and often (not every year, depends on budget) a rain jacket as well. However, ours are a student organization, so they will ?pass down? polos to each other, so many guides end up with multiple. We ask that they only wear ones in good shape, and we monitor that loosely. They tend to self-police that much closer than we would. For that reason, we do not change styles very often.
