[civsa] Slack Channels

Hi all,
Here is our list of the channels that are always active:
#general: for all to post info related to work (shift changes, turn in timesheet reminders, etc.)
#summer-time: for the few students working over the summer
#calendars2017: we keep an online calendar showing all open and closed tours, groups, and school events on one calendar (this calendar is my lifesaver!)
#random: to invite each other to events outside of school
#events: to post on-campus events so we can share with prospective students on tours (especially if the prospy students will be in town for a few days)
For group visits:
#7-31evergreenhs: in this channel, we post of photo of the group visit agenda and invite students to the channel that are on this agenda. They give an emoji thumbs up if they are free to do the tour or thumbs down if they can't. This student and our student coordinator look for a replacement if the student cannot give the tour. We also add basic details about the group.
Each Student Ambassador has their own channel. We are also starting "houses" this quarter. I love the private house channel idea below-thanks Taylor!
Hope this helps!
Lauren

Hi Kirsten and others,
We use the following:
#general: Mainly shift coverage if the shift request was managed in their House channel.
#urgent: I only require the team to have push notifications for this specific channel. But most also subscribe for push notifications in #general.
#random: Because we all know our students have some very random things they like to share with each other.
Private House channels (#gryffindor, #hufflepuff, etc.): We use a Harry Potter-style House system among our team. Each House gets a private channel to communicate with each other. Because they get points for picking up coverage, most work to get coverage within their House first (so another House doesn't get points.
We use the Slack system in coordination with WhenToWork.com for scheduling.
Hope this helps!

Hi Kirsten,
I've found that simpler is better. We have the required #general chat and then use the following:
#announcements (aka what would have been an email)
#subrequests (shift changes)
#asktodd (if they have a question about anything, I respond here for all to see)
And then each group/team (our ambassadors have teams) has their own team channel. I have also created a "newbies" channel from time to time for all new hires to be a part of until they've been taken into a team.
Best,
Todd

Hi everyone,
For those who are using Slack for communication with your ambassadors I'm wondering if you would be willing to share how you structure the channels, particularly around shift change requests and confirmations.
Thanks!
