[civsa] Compensating Students for SDI Conference

Hello Frank, 

In the past I did not pay the students hourly for their attendance at the conference since we were covering airfare, lodging, meals, etc. However, I asked HR this year and they said I have to pay them hourly. I have to use our university travel policy to determine what counts as paid time and what does not (for example, eating dinner on our own would not count as paid time), but legally I have to pay them. 

You may want to check with your HR department to see what they recommend. I hope this helps!

I will be bringing four student ambassadors with me to the SDI Conference this January who are paid hourly. I wanted to know for those of you who will also be bringing student staff if you will be paying or compensating them for their hours at the conference considering we have already covered their meals, transportation, and rooms.
