Hi Dee/CIVSA friends:
At Stanford, our 3-day "Admit Weekend" (Thursday-Saturday) is a hybrid of joint and separated programming. We start out with joint programming for the majority of the first day, then split into "student programming" and "parent programming" for the majority of the remainder of the weekend. A full list of our 2016 schedule of events and programs is available at:
https://stanforduniversityadmitweek2016.sched.org/
Families arrive on Thursday and have a variety of tour options and special-interest programming, followed by the first Keynote event - the official University welcome from the Provost and Dean of Admission. Then late Thursday afternoon (around 4:00) is the official "parting" when prospective students go to meet their student hosts who help bring them to their residences. Meanwhile, parents have a variety of residence/dining tours and open houses followed by a University-sponsored "parent mixer". Friday and Saturday are largely "separated" programming. Friday includes two major events - Q&A with the President, and a special lunch for admits with the entire admission staff; Saturday concludes with an official Closing Speaker keynote event.
Hope this is helpful! See link for details and other programming.
Cheers,
DJ

Good afternoon CIVSA!
For those of you whose institutions host admitted student events, are your events student-centered or family friendly? If your event is just for students, what do you do with the parents? Tell them to come back later? What kind of sessions do you have for them (that wouldn't overlap with what your orientation team does)???
Suggestions (and/or itineraries if you are willing to share) would be greatly appreciated! :)
Dee
