[civsa] visitor centers

Hello Theresa,

We are in the process of having a visitor's center designed for us, within
an existing structure. It won't be done until January but I did have some
insight into the process.

First, we were very careful to not completely define this space as a
"visitor center" and instead the "Admission Visitor Center". We have no
plans on functioning as the "front door" for the entire university. We
don't have a lot of tourists who just want to see the university anyway but
wanted to make sure that our functionality of providing a first and
in-depth look for prospective students and their guests was clearly
defined. We wanted to also make sure that while several Admission offices
will remain in our current space, that the visit team still retains their
Admission responsibilities (recruitment, app review, etc...) and that all
Admission representatives would have weekly responsibilities within the
visit center/visit function.

Additionally I would say that you try and be as much of a part of design
process as possible. The people that know the visit needs and will utilize
the space on a daily basis need to be a part of that process. The early
planning of our space didn't include us and it would have been millions
wasted. Know we are part of every step and this will truly support
everything we need to run an effective visit program.

Take care,

Andrew
