[civsa] Pre-Pay for Parking - HELP!

Hi Scott,

We don't have anything where guests pre-pay. For our daily tours, we are not charged for visitor parking at the lot next to our building but we are charged for events and evening programs. The Welcome Center covers the cost and parking gives us a reduced rate just to cover operating costs. No guest is ever charged for parking unless they park in the wrong place.

When guests come in, they get a parking ticket that we validate in our office with a small machine. At some of our other lots, they get a token which is much easier.

Walk-ins just say they are here for a tour or event and the parking attendant adds them to the registration list. Same goes for non-tour guests. The parking attendant will call our office to verify sometimes.

Hello!

Without consulting the Office of Admissions, our Commuter Services department will be changing all of their lots to pre-pay parking, and allowing departments to provide guests with a "coupon code" up front that can validate parking.

- Does anyone else experience something similar where guests need to prepay?
- How do you ensure everyone gets the validation code?  What do you do about guests who fail to read the email and the instructions within - how do you validate parking for them?
- How do you validate parking for walk-ins who don't have a reservation?
- How about non-tour guests, who maybe drop in and have admissions questions?
