Hi, Megan,
Campus Sherpa is at the University of Washington, though they've kept a lower profile than expected. When they first appeared on campus close to a year ago, the Seattle Times and UW Daily interviewed Admissions for our take. What they offer, which we can't begin to accommodate to scale is the high touch visit. e.g. the Sherpas are willing to host overnight campus stays, which the "Liability Folks" and I are unwilling to entertain.
I think we had Sherpa-sponsored visit come through in the last two weeks. A counselor from an independent school in Ohio contacted our Associate Vice Provost for Enrollment to notify him of an impending visit from one of his students. The parents had shared with the counselor the student's itinerary:
"X, Y and" I are off to see University of Washington the end of next week. We meet with the admissions department, the Honors program, an introductory freshman astronomy class (about 400 students), and some Peer Mentors. UW has Peer Mentors who are student volunteers to meet with prospects. Kyle's guy is a pre-med bio major, member of the running club, and a member of a fraternity. On the surface, it seems like Kyle and Nathan should be able to carry on a good conversation. Waiting to hear about a potential meeting with the head of the soccer club and may be able to take in a lax club game. There is a honors student trying to schedule us who is doing a psychology research project in UW's Institute of Learning and Brain Science about reading comprehension of ADHD kids. It could be fun to hear about UW's research program. The rest of the time we'll check out Seattle and connect with my relatives. If either you or Darnell have suggestions of people to meet, places to go, and things to do at UW, please let me know.
The only reason I could find the student was that he had registered for a campus tour and information session.
While other colleagues and I have concerns, we reached out to the group to keep the lines of communication open. My senior associate advised them about background checks, since their leadership hadn't considered that element. We also encouraged Sherpa to have their guests register for Admissions Office activities, so they would not have to provide admissions information.
Pay-wise, initially Sherpa offered a more competitive wage to their student staff, $15/hour. At the time, UW offered $10/hour pay rate. Starting last year, Seattle and UW started phasing in a $15/hour pay rate. Starting January 1st, the student wage increased to $13/hour. January 1, 2017, UW will pay students $15/hour.
Let me know if you have more questions.
Best,
Joyce

Hello!
Campus Sherpa is currently trying to recruit AU students as hosts, and I was wondering if anyone has had experience with them on their campuses. Any feedback would be great. If you have had any issues with them, how did your institution handle them?
Thanks!
