We actually require them to carry their phones because we have a university wide text alert system. We also have radios that they wear in case of emergencies or if we need to know where they are for a late family to catch up with them.

Hopping in on this with a related question - how do you notify your guides of an emergency situation? While they are out on tour, they are far connected from your respective welcome/visitor centers/HQ/etc... are they on their own to discover an emergency and respond accordingly? Most of us have a no-cell phone policy I imagine.

Hi Becca,

At Texas A&M University we have our students do the following trainings:
-child protection training
-active shooter training
-first aid/cpr certification
-golf cart/van training

In addition, we have a handbook that covers all types of emergency scenarios and what to do in the event those situations arise.

Meredith

Hello everyone,

What training do you require for your staff regarding emergencies for events or tours? I am looking for some good procedures but also wondered if anyone requires staff to have first aid or CPR training? We are looking to add some aspect of this to our fall tour guide training and I am looking for some resources or suggestions.
Thank you!
