Scott,

At UW-Madison, we use Wufoo<http://www.wufoo.com>, on online survey tool, to collect student ambassador applications. All of our ambassador applications are submitted electronically.

Pros
-All data lives in the cloud so staff can review apps from anywhere at anytime.
-We have the ability to set internal permission level access so certain students/staff can only see segmented application materials.
-Applicants can easily upload attachments (resumes, cover letters).
-The system electronically stores all submissions so you can cross-tabulate previous year applications, as needed.
-Great reporting and data visualization features.
-Create specific and triggered email notifications.
-The application is very affordable and can be used for multiple purposes. We use Wufoo for tracking lost and found, event registration, etc.

At this point, I can’t really think of any cons.

Hope this helps!
Nick

Subject: [civsa] Ambassador/Tour Guide Applications

Greetings CIVSA Land!

Have a question for you regarding your Ambassador/Tour Guide Application Process.

How many of you allow these applications to be turned in online – via Google Docs, email, or even your own home grown system?

What are some of the benefits for online application turn-in?

What are some of the detractors and cons for online application turn-in?

If you made the switch from paper to online turn-in – what prompted that switch?

Thanks everyone!

Scott
