[civsa] Lunch on Campus for Visitors

Hello Marti –

At Northwestern, we only provide meal vouchers to the admitted students during our general admitted student visit in the spring. This is different from our more formal admitted student programming, Wildcat Days. The meal vouchers only work in our dining halls, and cannot be used in the cafes on campus.

We also provide 2 meal vouchers per student for our overnight program, and we are launching our shadow a student program next week, which will include a lunch voucher. By reducing the our overnight program to 1 day/week, it is kind of a net zero with regards to meal expenditures with our new “Purple Preview” program. We cover the costs in full, and the University does not subsidize the cost for us as a department.

Hello Marti!

  Here at the University of Idaho we offer our morning guests a choice to eat lunch on campus, and our afternoon guests the option to have a snack break on campus. Our coupons have both options listed on them so guest can choose which ever choice fits best in their schedule.

Both meal options are 100 % free to guests.  Our lunch options is for our main dining hall, Bob’s Place. Bob’s Place is a buffet style dining hall which allows guest to go back as many times as needed. Our snack break option is for Einstein Bagels, located in our Idaho Commons. This snack break offers guests the option to get a cookie and hot beverage or fountain soda in the afternoon.

The expense of these meals are covered partially by our office and partially by the UI Office of the President. Both options have been a big hit with our guests!

We are looking at providing different options for lunches for campus visitors and I am wondering if I could get some information from you:

1) Do you provide coupons/complimentary lunches for your visitors?
2) If yes, what is your discount (full, 1/2 off etc.)?
3) Is your discount for the dining center, food court, both/all?
4) Is the expense of the meals covered by your office, dining/food services, another office/department or written off?
