[civsa] Inappropriate Behavior by Visitors on Tours

We tell our Tour Guides that they have every right to end a tour immediately and bring the person back to the Welcome Center and get a Pro Staff Member. The students do not get paid enough and should NEVER have to be subjected to inappropriate behavior. We have only had this 1 maybe 2 times, but the students are all told to just bring them back and get one of us.

Hi, all,

We've had several instances on our student housing tours in which visitors have made inappropriate and/or offensive remarks, usually regarding race, gender, sexual orientation, religion, etc.  We've most recently had an incident in which a visitor used a racial slur in referring to one of our student staff members. I'm emailing today to ask if anyone has set protocol on how to handle situations like those. We're working to determine the best way to empower our staff in those situations.
