Thank you very much Kanani, this has been very helpful. And if you could too please share any information after your meeting it would be greatly appreciated.

Would anyone else have any comments or plans?

Carol Ann Casey

Subject: Re: [civsa] Safety Concerns regarding Campus shootings

Hi Carol,

About 4 months ago, we had our Campus Safety Officers come and speak with our Ambassador team and they went into detail about their plan for that type of emergency. They were able to provide tips on what to do, safe places to go and take the group.

This summer we are going to start using walkie talkies/radios that our tour guides will take with them on the tour. For several reasons we decided to do this, however one of the features of the radio is that there is a direct channel that will connect with our dispatch in the Campus Safety office. With the help of one of our officers, we were able to purchase the same radios they use and we are the 3rd of 4th office on campus to do so.

Representatives from the different departments in my building will be gathering soon to create a plan and we will be working closely with our Campus Safety Office.

I would be interested in hearing what other's plans or comments are on this.

Thanks,
Kanani

Hello,

I have had a growing concern with the recent incidents of violence on campuses throughout the country. My greatest concern is that my students, who give campus tours on a daily basis, have no training in what to do if an event like this should ever occur on our campus. (And I hope it never does) However, I believe with your expertise and concerns, we should be able to provide the ambassadors with the appropriate training to handle such situations if they arise.
