[civsa] Group Visits

Good Afternoon!

At the University of North Florida we offer tours to all ages - even though our website specifically states that we try to limit our groups to high school.  There are so many middle school college prep programs nowadays and part of their experience is to visit a university.  We tailor those tours  to the age group.  We even give tours to the very young children - no more than an hour - and we spend more time teaching them how to SWOOP and asking them questions about what they want to be when they grow up.  We can point out the colleges and tell them that is where to go to learn it after they graduate from high school!  We don't normally give them anything, due to budget cuts, but if we have stickers or something like that, we usually try to share those.  With the middle school groups, we are a little more informative, concentrating on their grades and giving them some information about scholarships, etc, but it is a very basic tour.  We can always tell the students who are really interested by the questions they ask.  We don't give out our regular tour folders to these groups either.  They get a View book or a Facts book.

Good Morning from Alabama!

Hope all of you are doing well!  I have a question for those of you that offer group visits for elementary/middle school groups.  Do you have a scavenger hunt/games that you offer them or do you take them on a tour?  If you have copies you would be willing to share I would love to see them.

At the University of Maryland we now include our Scavenger Hunt in our printed Visitor Guide. This has reduced costs and saved a few trees since we no longer need to print this as a standalone piece. It is also accessible in the online version of the guide so teachers are able to use it in their classroom prior to or after their visit.
